The Christian Reformed Church in North America has a full time position opening for a Director of Chaplaincy and Care Ministry, based in either the Grand Rapids, MI or Burlington, ON office  This person will be responsible for developing and promoting the strategic ministry of Christian Reformed chaplains and for advancing and facilitating ministries of care with Christian Reformed pastors, congregations and other CRCNA ministries.

Qualified candidates will be a seminary graduate, with a minimum of 5 years experience as a chaplain and at least one quarter of Clinical Pastoral Education (or equivalent). Ordination as well as administrative and parish experience preferred.

The hiring range for this position is $67,840 - $76,320 US or $68,492 - $77,054 CND.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Job Title                     : Director of Chaplaincy and Care Ministry

Reports To                 : Director of Denominational Ministries
Status                        : Full-time


PURPOSE:
To develop and promote the strategic ministry of Christian Reformed chaplains and to advance and facilitate ministries of care with Christian Reformed pastors, congregations, and other CRCNA ministries. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
1.   Assessment
Work strategically with others in the CRC who engage in ministry vocational assessment with seminary students, chaplains, parish pastors, and others interested in full time ministry, such as identifying or developing tools for vocational assessment
2.   Recruitment
a)   Facilitate recruitment of chaplains in educational institutions and other settings
b)   Administer the training stipend and salary supplement for chaplains in training
3.   Endorsement
a)      Administer the denominational endorsement process
b)      Maintain appropriate contact with national endorsing-related organizations
4.   Care
a)      Engage in shared supervision of chaplains with their calling churches
b)      Develop relationships with the chaplains and facilitate care through the chaplain clusters
c)      When necessary, advocate for chaplains with their employers
d)      Work closely with the other specialized ministry directors to promote community and care in the CRC
5.   Training and Resourcing
a)      Facilitate periodic conferences for the training and encouragement of CR chaplains
b)      Promote and facilitate opportunities for training in care in CR churches, classes, and ministries
c)      Develop and maintain a bi-national list of spiritual directors and mental health consultants adept at serving ordained professionals
d)      Advocate for Clinical Pastoral Education as a significant educational opportunity for people studying for ministry and for people already serving in ministry 

ACCOUNTABILITY
The Director of Chaplaincy and Care Ministry shall have an advisory relationship in chaplaincy and care matters to the Chaplaincy and Care Advisory Committee of the Board of Trustees.

SUPERVISION
Joint supervision of the administrative assistant.
Joint supervision of civilian and military chaplains. (Synodical mandate) 

QUALIFICATIONS
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.
1.      Have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and a commitment to Christ’s mission for the church.
2.      Be a member in the Christian Reformed Church or the willingness to join.
3.      Have demonstrated administrative ability with organizational and management skills.
4.      Have demonstrated ability to think strategically about ministries of care.
5.      Have the ability to speak and write in ways that effectively communicate.
6.      Familiarity with organizations that support the professional and ecclesiastical processes for chaplains. 
7.      Have a cross-cultural awareness. 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
1.      Minimum of 5 years experience working as a Chaplain or in a related field of ministry.
2.      Completion of one unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (or equivalent) required; four units preferred.
3.      Seminary graduate, with ordination preferred.
4.      Parish ministry experience preferred.
5.      Professional coaching experience preferred.
